My Mistress' eyes

 William Shakespeare

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun
Coral is far more red than her lips' red,
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun,
If hairs be wires, black wires grow upon her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks,
And in some perfumes is there more delight,
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak: yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound,
I grant I never saw a goddess go,
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground,
And yet by heaven, I think my love as rare,
As any she belied with false compare.

it's not that necessarily he is describing an unattractive woman, but he is saying that his woman may not be this, or that, but in his mind she is everything!
Sweet

it makes me to realize how the poet uses his creativity to compare the lady with nature

The whole point of this poem points to the extent that a true love doesn't have slim waist, rosey cheeks, and look like a super model. Love between two people outweighs normal senses. Kudos to Shakespeare for pointing that out..
I lurve this poem

Shakespeare will never become outdated ... its sad though th@ love isn't viewed like this anymore ... that it isn't genuine despite knowing that your loved one is not perfect, in the sense that they their description adheres to poetic metaphors, but that your love for them is genuine. :zzz

I love this poem because it's not typical of love poetry. It's truth with fancy words.
