Across the World

Published by at 12:35 pm under Break Up Poems

All the way across the world, journey across the sea
Running to where the water is. To where you once kissed me
I found myself alone again. I found that I’d forget;
sat down upon the shifting sand and swallowed my regret.

My fingers trace the words I know. The words I’d used to say.
But you had never cared for them – those words you threw away.
Long lost, long felt, long said to you. I’d nothing more to hold
And all those times you left me weak, and all those times you told-

of love and life and emptiness; of truth and lies and fear
Of all the words you’ve ever said, you’d never say them here.
Within these walls that don’t exist, upon the sandy shore
where you once left my happiness, and now will leave no more.

Tracing still, I close my eyes, and listen to the sea
Wond’ring if you’ll come along and see the world with me
A heart was filled with emptiness, a heart devoid of love
is nothing but a waste of space and something I’m scared of.

Believe me for I speak the truth. I need you more than air.
And even when you left me lost I crave to have you there.
I build the walls beside myself – from sand and love and tears
But find that what you’d done to me had stained our precious years.

All the way across the world – the journey ends on sand.
Running where I used to smile (where water meets the land).
I found myself alone again. I found that I’d forget;
sat down upon the shifting sand and let my feet get wet.
