Breathtaking

Published by at 5:23 am under Sad Love Poems

I upturn what I had in time
and throw it all to thee
And bid to keep thy gentle touch
Thy gentle love for me.

I unearth every untruth told
and swear it unto thee;
These motions turn the sea to sound –
Thy love’s breath but for me.

I disclaim every notion held
of spitefulness for thee.
For, in my heart, all I could keep
Was love you left in me.

I gather all I could resolve
when trouble came for thee,
And thy good will was breathtaking
You took my breath from me.

I uphold what I seek to say
And find it all by thee
And whisper with a shaking voice
the words you’d once told me.

I understand what I should not
I learn it all from thee
And knowledge burned a tender heart
A heart you’d healed for me.

I upturn what I had in time
and throw it all to thee
And you were but a pure love’s curse
A love that could not be.
