Colours

Bright pink and bright orange
One splatter of green
One dab of the yellow
No black to be seen

Turquoise and purple
Blue, red and white
All different colours
Assaulting your sight

One smudge of silver
A stripe of pure gold
All of these colours
Are happy and bold

The canvas just beside
Is painted in grey
It’s Black and it’s mournful
I made it that way

I painted my feelings
I painted my life
To highlight the awful
The pain and the strife

I look at the colours
And feel faintly ill
Look back at my artwork
But am bothered still

I glance at the colours
And back at the grey
with one tear of fabric
I throw mine away

I pull out my paint set
And use neon green
One dab of the yellow
No black to be seen
