Friendship doesn’t last

Published by at 11:08 am under Missing you Love Poems

Anxiety replaces grief
My heart keeps beating fast
I reach to clutch your kindness near
But kindness doesn’t last

Staccato beating; thump-thump-thump
I linger near the edge
I fear this loss will make me fall,
Fall right over the ledge

I plummet into black despair
The poison seeps to bone
The guilt strangles a broken heart
You made me feel alone

I think of why it hurts this much
My soul’s been torn in two
The jagged scars, a phantom ache –
These both were caused by you

I wonder what inspired love,
And why there is no hate
Why even when my heart has bled,
I can’t judge what is great.

Sometimes I choke on memories
I retch, and scream, and cry
My nature’s but a curse to you
Sometimes I wonder why…

This longing will replace the fear
My heart keeps beating fast
I reach to clutch your friendship near,
But friendship doesn’t last…
