i did it because

i did it because i knew of no other
way to be in control
i did it because i wanted some other
way to dirty my soul
i did it because i wanted another
someone to care and talk to
i did it because i needed a lover
someone who’d help me get through
i did it because my pride had been stolen
ripped away… gone
i did it because my fears are still rolling
stuck in my head like a never-ending song
i did it because i had no idea
that love could still be true
i did it because, after everything,
i still mourn you
