Lovers’ Love
As lovers met, and passion grew,
your love became as sweet as you.
And lovers loved, as lovers do,
and swore their faith had sweetened, too.
By sun, by day, by blinding light,
love surged from ash as black as night
and loved anew by strength and might;
swore lovers’ love was worth the fight.
A lover’s heart must learn to lie
to save the love for which he’d die,
And fear could make a young heart cry,
but love was strong, and so was I.
Those promises left love in debt,
brought fear to front, but no regret.
And one thing I shall not forget:
That one sweet kiss when lovers met.
