Loves Secret

by William Blake

{mosgoogle}

Never seek to tell thy love,

Love that never told can be;

For the gentle wind does move

Silently, invisibly.

I told my love, I told my love,

I told her all my heart;

Trembling, cold, in ghastly fears,

Ah! she did depart!

Soon as she was gone from me,

A traveler came by,

Silently, invisibly

He took her with a sigh.

    I thought it was a tragedy, he old her how he felt and she just left, how sad is that.

    I think rather, he told her he was gay.
    Ah, she did depart.

    Read the 2nd line. He did NOT tell her how he felt and time slipped away until, in the 2nd verse, he told her and it was too late. Any number of things may have happened behind that verse, but she went with someone else. Blake is telling a profound truth about love. If you have feelings for someone, tell them soon, because, often, they will not wait around for your fear to leave. And you may not even be aware that someone else took them until it is too late.

    I think this poem is to short. what were her reactions to you telling your heart, and did u wait too long to tell her, because she allowed him to take her.

    Dr William you are right. Men wait too long to show their love. By the time they do it\’s too late she has already given up and parts away to someone who will appreciate her.

    Love is not a thing which automatically can be made in her mind when he express his feelings of love to her.It is very sad that one loves the one who loves another.

    If it\’s true love, it will be. It it\’s not true love, the heart will wander.

    The way that i have been interpreting this piece is quite different that what has been commented above: Love is like wind, it is unspeakable, gentle, sacred…if you express your love too outright, in fear and grasping, it can intimidate, it can turn love sour. I think that this poem is about keeping love sacred, about letting it cultivate without DEFINITIONS. In the sencond verse, he proclaims his love, in \”ghastly fears\” and she departs. In the third line, a new lover takes her \”with a sigh\”. Silently, gracefully. Love is not proclaimed by words, only in action and gesture.

    Blake is speaking clear english in this piece which is rare. Through this realization it is clear to me that this piece is meant to be clear because it is very important to him that the message comes across. He is saying that love can not be created with words. If it is to be than it happens. No ammount of briliance or language usage can srufice for nature\\\’s or god\\\’s will. More deeply he is showing the tragedy in the disolutionment that comes from being turned down or rejected by someone you think the world of. All his efforts to express his deepest feelings and his worship for this person was not enough. The most tragic and punctuating part is the end which says dispite his pain sorrow and best efforts to express his deepest love he not only is rejected but his lady settles for someone who doesn\\\’t have much care for her at all. This not only shows the death of his reality but it shows the death of all mens. That he could not over come nature with his best efforts is reflective of man\\\’s ability. We die spiritually when we fail to conquer love. This is a piece about the inability of man to create love and the irrelevence language has if it has no object. Language is only as beautiful as reality and it is as tragic as reality too. The wisdom one can take from this is that we should not forget that language only expresses what is already there it doesnt create what one wishes to expierence. If love was a product of our imaginations it would surely not be so special. We can only wonder what works mysteriously in the universe– the mystery that elludes our most trying efforts. To harness love is impossible but to fall in love and be rejected is not. On the bright side though, if you are lucky enough to ever fall into true love then you will have captured somthing truely elusive. Somthing you\\\’ll be delighted to know that words can never contain.

    He…definitly did profess his love..you can tell by him saying \”I told my love\” the second line is saying that you shouldn\’t say you love someone because it leaves you vulnerable…and could scare your love away

    This is a beautiful poem. It helped me reaize that that is what happened to one of my ex-boyfriends. Someone came and took him from me.

    Shelly\\\’s poem tells me this:
    Love is beyond verbalization. It, like wind, can only be sourced to God. Merge with the totality of Love and be in it. You can not possess it, you can only be in it. It may briefly touch you for a time while waiting to be joined by the timeless Traveller.Perceptive human love is breezy, ephemeral. Look for Love Transcendental.

    There is a deeper meaning to this poem, and it is a sad one. The poet\’s beloved \”departed\” meaning she died. Death is the wind, silent and invisible. The traveler who came by and took her away is Death itself. The poet is ruing falling in love and having his loved one taken away by Death.

    rather, i think that this poem is a story of the risk of confessing one\\\’s love. he says in the second verse that he confessed his heart to her, yet she left. he fell in love with her, they were not romantically involved. he confessed to her, she did not feel the same way, she distanced herself from him, and fell in love with someone else, who did not confess his love… 8)

    THE POETS ERA IS JUST LIKE OURS NOTHING IS CALLED LOVE . LOVE EXISTS ONLY IN POEME AND NOVELS.ATTRACTION IS THE NEW WORD FOR LOVE IF THE WOMAN U LIKE DOESN’T FEEL IT THEN U R KNOCKING THE WRONG DOOR. BELIEVE YOU ALL I REALLY HAVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE IN THAT.HOWEVER, THAT DOES NOT BLAKE WAS NOT A GOOD POET HE REALLY WAS ON OF THE BEST AMONG HIS CONTEMPRORIES.===========SALAHADDIN
