My Lovely Wife
Some people… they get sick, I know.
Some people contract cancer.
They say they did all that they could…
but giving up’s no answer.
Some people have no options left.
Some people die too soon.
Like you, my dear, my lovely wife,
who died this afternoon.
Some people have no will to fight.
Some people aren’t like you.
You fought until you had no time
And I fought with you, too.
Some people say it comes too fast.
Some people say it’s cruel.
And people like me hold out hope,
though those people are fools.
Some people… they get sick, I know.
Some people sometimes die.
But I just wish there was more time
for me to say goodbye.
Such a drastic change from the theme of your other poems
It is indeed.
Thank you for reading
I love this poem ! It is beautiful ! I lost my wife of 20 years on 12-1-2014. This beautiful is exactly how I felt when they told that she wasn’t going to make it . Thank you for this poem. It’s the most beautiful poem that I have ever read !
