Natal Gift

Published by at 10:21 am under Forever Love Poems

My dear, I know, you see
I’ve gone and gotten the child in you
So fair, my dear, even more the man
I shall have to be

For you, it’s your want
Beckons me out of city limits
I, made up from the start
To be smiling only
For a fleeting instant
Within the purlieus of your heart

And am I your… natal gift?

As if, alight, I rise
Where rose-leaves stir in colour round a core
Of ruddy stone, kindled lately
And softly blown
Just trying to, as you do
Steer above
All that is weak and ugly of mind
And now, drunken
Stumbling
Still the stronger lover, though braced a little
I stand
In the room beside, with you,
always
