Rule the Night

Published by at 9:59 am under Teenage Love Poems

I find my way, through midnight dark,
Back to the window where the dogs bark.
Readied, as always, for desperate flight,
I follow you out into the night.

I kiss you, I’ve missed you,
I don’t know what to do.
You tell me it’s okay,
And you take me away.

Off we go with a headlong rush,
But with an ever fearful hush,
Slipping into night, freely, away,
A feeling unbeknownst in the day.

I’ll give you everything to take me far,
Just kiss me again and get in the car.
I’ll no longer deny you, I can’t, we must.
This is the night we succumb to our lust.

You make me feel like everything’s right,
I need to feel like we’re gods for the night.
Here, in shadows and secrecy,
I give myself to you desperately.

I wanted this, I needed this,
Together we found our unholy bliss.
Some urges, baby, are too strong to fight.
You and I, together, we’ll rule the night.

I won’t say anything about content, but the rhyming was done in a very natural and seemingly effortless way. Also, the rhyming pattern, I think, made for a very lyrical poem.

Thank you, I’m not so sure either about most of it. It doesn’t feel like I wanted it to, it kinda comes across as a Hallmark card–pretty and rhyming but has no emotion. It was an idle fancy and I think that knowing that probably hindered any hope of making it relatable.

Oh no, not at all. I simply did not think it would be appropriate for me to say anything about the nature of this poem.
