Strong

Published by at 11:04 am under Betrayal Poems

It’s ironic that on the day we did not fight
Was the day the day you walked and took with you all the light
Everything that was good to me, all of it
Gone, taken away in a moment, one fatal hit

Empty words, shallow promises, death by affection
What I perceived to be you turned out to be a twisted reflection
Solemn vows that made me throw my heart at you in ecstasy
You threw it back, and gave me one less reason to want to breath

Just a game to you, a virtu(al)oso display indeed
You dug me deep and began to grow your seed
And you watered it, made it feel right at home
Only to dig it up and have it on someone else’s heart grow
You say a lot, but I prefer my actions to do the talking
Funny thing, the little I say is in truth with the good Lord watching
Lies, deception, you’re good at what you do
So good, you had me blinded, I hadn’t a clue

So go, don’t look back, take yourself away
Just remember, I kept my promises, until the last day
Running on empty, I’ll keep on
So long then, it didn’t kill me, but it’ll make me strong
