The second time ’round

Published by at 5:36 pm under Teenage Love Poems

He told me “I love you”, but it wasn’t true.
So tell me why I should believe you?
I’ve heard it all before, and felt this way too.
Last time it was a lie, could this be too?
I wish I knew how this would end.
Last time it nearly killed me, once more could spell my end.
Your eyes speak love and honesty, but his did too.
A darker truth lay buried in his captivating gaze.
Do your eyes also tell me lies?
As I lay awake at night all I think about is you,
And I can’t help but wonder if I fill your thoughts too.
Or am I just another lovesick teen.
A hopeless romantic,
pledging words of love which you repeat, but don’t mean.
Will we stand the test of time, growing stronger as we go?
Or will we crash and burn.
From each mistake we learn, but love is one lesson I never seem to learn.
He left me cold and empty, my body just a shell.
You rekindled my soul,
Blew my dimming spark into a flame.
Yet, I have to wonder, if we fall apart,
Will you extinguish what remains of me?
Or would I somehow survive, once again, the pain of lost love I know so well.
