This Heartache
This heartache was a crip’ling force
It left me on my knees.
It blinded me, upended me;
Was deaf to all my pleas.
This heartache was too much for me
Too much for me to bear
It slashed at me, injected me
With pain too thick to share.
This heartache was a solid thing
A weight pressed on my chest
And although I kept crying out,
It pressed and pressed and pressed.
This heartache came so undeserved
My punishment for love
And even though I tried so hard,
My love was not enough.
This heartache was a killing blow
Enough to destroy bones
And now my body lay in ash
Cold, dead, free. Alone.
