Willow Tree

Published by at 2:33 pm under Sad Love Poems

Beneath a weeping willow tree

two children fell in love.

They held each other close that night

and wished on stars above.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

they said their love was true,

they dreamed of days as yet to come,

of happiness they knew.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

they shared a virgin kiss.

They swore no one would come between

a love as true as this.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

the months and years flew on.

A child was born, a baby boy

then grew and soon was gone.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

two lovers watched the sky

and wished on stars as old as time

that love would never die.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

two lovers aged to grey.

“I love you still” the woman spoke.

“I too” the man would say.

Beneath a weeping willow tree

two lovers were turned free.

Two graves still stand to mark the spot

for all eternity.
