The Risk

Published by at 6:49 am under Love and Friendship Poems

Putting my walls up… But not against you
Sometimes one takes risks just to see what they do
With you it’s a struggle, sometimes causing pain,
But you are the risk I would just take again.

I do care immensely – This one I’ll admit
but all of my feelings are as has been writ
Gums that are aching – a mouth set in fear
to hold you and have you and know that you’re here

I said I’d do anything, you said you’d have doubt
To find all my limits and figure them out
Logic and reason (with love) don’t apply
And that’s how I found myself wanting to cry.

Your rational thoughts; your distrust of my words
Those have gotten free and have scattered like birds
Living in shadows, in pure solitude
I’d fix all the problems – if only I could.

Putting my walls up… But not against you
You are a risk. Unpredictable, too.
I put up defenses – defenses in vain:
for you are the risk I would just take again.
